“We register every attendance and have our community ambassadors volunteer to serve during the children fun activities,” explains Vera who leads our NGO Core Health & Wealth Family (CHWf) in Tongaren in Western Kenya.
We are in the middle of a dedicated “youth” week in August 2023. Besides regular activities with teenagers and kids, CHWf’s parents’ and youth center, health and mentoring lessons and many other activities with young people during the whole year, this week is a very particular one…
Outside there is a lot of fun and fun!
In the red Making More Health Box are a number of games around health and hygiene: among those a throwing game to “ kill germs”, a running game that includes also “knowledge barriers” around personal hygiene, handwashing practices based quiz and physical exercises.
The children play in groups and have a lot of fun while learning about health. There are many games taking place the whole week – and sometimes even the adults try this and that together with the kits.
In parallel, there are some interesting things going on inside the classroom:
Who is your role model? And why? The discussion on qualities to look for…
Peter and Wilbrodah from CHWf invest a lot of time in teaching about life: it’s already day 3 of young people mentorship. Today, Dr. Wilbroda is discussing with them on SMART goal setting.

Also in other NGOs in our System changer network Kenya a lot of activities with young people are taking place and are key!
At our MMH partner organization VICCO in Nairobi’s underserved communities the young people meet regularly for gardening, cooking, knitting, testing new things and playing. “Ludo” is one of the games they like a lot.

And they celebrate together monthly all birthdays of the club members:
“We celebrated birthday for 12 kids in our shelter house. This is a wonderful and engaging moment and it helps to grow their self esteem…”, explains Shakur leading our partner NGO VICCO.

In Eldoret in Langas Slums dancing boys and girls’ soccer games – even on a national level – are really impressive.

Also here regular activities such as a parent centers for young mothers and kids, pre-school activities, mentorship courses for boys and girls and games are on the agenda.
At Gaaspp, the MMH school, in Homabay in our fishermen and women community led by our NGO partner Wa-Wa – the work with the youth is key in our network!
Why This Works: The Strength of the System Changer Network (SCN)
What makes these individual efforts so impactful is the network behind them.
The SCN connects organizations across Kenya so they can grow stronger—together.
Our impact is amplified through:
- Knowledge exchange among NGO leaders
- Skill-building trainings supported by employee engagement programs
- Innovative ideas contributed by social entrepreneurs
- A system index that tracks how NGOs collaborate, creating visibility and accountability
The result?
A smarter, stronger, more connected ecosystem—one that measurably improves the lives of thousands of children and young people.
