How karate lessons and self help groups create a long lasting change in underserved communities

In our Making More Health -Solasa center in Eldoret, one of the core activities is to support women who live in underserved communities in Langas slum. We visited one of the self help groups and asked what has changed in life since they meet in the group and participate regularly in the activities offered by the center.

Listen here to one testimonial:

A very emotional moment was also to interact with the children who meet here twice a week at the Solasa parents center. They play, sing and participate in several learning classes, such as the karate lessons:

Interesting observations from many places and communities we interact with

Some interesting observations are that it in most of the real long lasting and sustainable success stories of change it is the passion and engagement of the local trainers, the community spirit, the trust and hope in the groups, broad and also cultural skill development and joy being the most important ingredients to change people’s life. Money can support with infrastructures ( and sometimes without it does not work) , but it is not the main driver to make a big impact happen!
