The “MMH Basket of Love” is an initiative that helps the poorest with food. The very particular element in it is that the food is produced at our MMH farms by the local farmer cooperative members. Farmers who themselves struggled in the past to survive…
“Especially in these months of June and July here in Kenya there is less food available than during the rest of the year. Very needy households are supported with one month food supply,” explains Vera, one of our local partners and leaders at the Core Health & Wealth (CHW) NGO who run the Making More Health center in Western Kenya in the rural surroundings of Bungoma county.

“The MMH basket of love includes maize flour, beans, sugar, salt, cooking oil, bar soaps and fresh vegetables from our MMH farm. Many of the things we distribute are produced by our farmer community. Even the soap and the basket itself …,” Vera adds.
“There are people living neglected, often living alone and invested with jiggers. Or an elderly grandmother taking care of her grand children and a mentally ill son who cannot take care of himself. Some of them were overwhelmed with joy to a point of shading tears.”
There is a huge impact within the communities since the start in 2020
Since 2020, in the area of our Making More Health cooperatives (ca 75000 people) many changes have taken place: The huge benefit of better and more innovative farming activities, training sessions in health, in income generation, in digital knowledge, safety measurements, parent centers, the water solutions …. And many training sessions are shared now far beyond Bungoma county.
The community spirit and hope are back. These are important factors driving the change for better.
One example of the impactful growth and the change in people’s life are the regular women meetings:
During the last meeting some women who know how to cook chapatis were teaching others how to prepare them step by step. The women were so incited because they had an opportunity to practice what they’d been taught and shared the end product together.

Many activities. Many training sessions. Many joyful moments.
The impact is visible and tangible to many of them. And it is the hope, the community spirit, the dignity and pride that drives it all! This is what will make it also sustainable – long-term wise!
