Working with girls means changing lives. Working with boys, too, means changing generations!

When we talk about reducing teenage pregnancy and building resilient communities, the focus often falls on girls. At SCN Kenya, we know this is only half the story. True, sustainable change happens when boys are part of the journey too.

Boys as Part of the Solution

Take Webuye, for example. Here, our NGO partner GAASPP runs life skills sessions where street boys explore topics like drug and substance abuse, peer pressure, and healthy decision-making as well as gaining professional skills. These sessions are not just lessons — they are opportunities for boys to reflect, discuss, and step into responsibility. One participant shared how understanding the consequences of risky behavior helped him rethink his choices and influence his friends positively.

Meanwhile, in the Mukuru Slums of Nairobi, VICCO, another core NGO member of SCN Kenya, engages boys in sports and skill training.

At Core Health & Wealth Core NGO Member of our SCNetwork, interactive sessions for boys, teaching them critical thinking, respect, and leadership are key. The boys here are not only learning skills but also gaining confidence to become role models in their communities.

How SCN Kenya Builds Lasting Change

What sets the System Changer Network (SCN Kenya) apart is our holistic, collaborative approach:

Peer Learning: Core NGOs visit each other’s projects to share insights and lessons.

Integrated Solutions: Different interventions are combined to address interconnected challenges.

Joint Events: Activities and workshops are organized collaboratively to create a broader impact.

Year-long Focus Topics: Shared annual topics ensure consistent attention and measurable outcomes.

This approach ensures that initiatives don’t exist in isolation — they connect, reinforce, and amplify each other. By involving both boys and girls, and by linking communities, schools, and families, we create change that is systemic, sustainable, and measurable.

A Call to Collaborate

At SCN Kenya, we believe that change is bigger than one project, one gender, or one community. It’s about building bridges between ideas, people, and actions. Our partners show that when boys are informed, empowered, and supported, they become part of the solution — shaping communities that are stronger, safer, and more resilient.

Together, we’re not just running programs; we’re walking the journey toward a more informed, respectful, and empowered generation.
