Bridging the Digital Divide: AI Training Across SCN Kenya

100 champions. 7 centers. One network

At System Changer Network Kenya (SCN Kenya), we believe that every community should have access to the skills and tools that define the future. This week, we convened passionate community champions for the very first AI training sessions across our partner organizations.

The goal was simple yet powerful: to explore how artificial intelligence can help solve real challenges in education, health, and community development within vulnerable communities and informal settlements.

Learning AI by doing

The trainings introduced participants to practical AI tools that can enhance decision-making, improve service delivery, and spark new opportunities for innovation.

Thanks to the commitment of our partners — Core Health & Wealth, Viwandani, Solasa, Tendo, Mukuru Angata, Wa-WaKenya, Gaaspp — nearly 100 community members were able to take part. From Central to Western Kenya. With laptops and devices provided on site, the sessions were hands-on and interactive, showing how AI can be applied in real community settings.

“I never imagined AI could help us improve income generation in our community — now I see new possibilities,” shared one participant.

“With these tools, I can help my schoolchildren learn in creative ways we didn’t have before,” added another.

These reflections capture the excitement and curiosity that filled the training spaces.

Empowering champions, empowering communities

This initiative is more than just training — it’s about equipping local leaders with knowledge and confidence. By understanding how AI can be applied in their contexts, these champions are now better prepared to share skills with their neighbors, schools, and youth groups.

Step by step, this creates a ripple effect of empowerment, ensuring that underserved communities are not left behind in the fast-changing digital era.

Partnerships for systemic change

At SCN Kenya, we know that building digital inclusion requires collaboration. Partnerships with social enterprises, community organizations, and innovation experts make it possible to scale these efforts.

We invite organizations, tech experts, and innovators to join us in expanding access to AI training, fostering inclusion, and unlocking the incredible potential of communities across Kenya.
