You cannot understand sitting in an office what it means to live in informal settlements like those in Nairobi or in rural areas. This week was incredible. I experienced a huge mindset change and I have a complete different understanding now about needs and how they connect to each other to make more health happen!

The last week my colleague from Turkey joined to get better insights how life looks in vulnerable communities. From water to farming, from education to mental well-being and animal Health. Together, we visited several Making More Health Centers in Nairobi, Eldoret and in Webuye and Tongaren in Bungoma county, Western Kenya.
Talking to self help groups in Mukuru slums, meeting micro entrepreneurs, talking to farmers, police and government representatives, opening a theatre hall in one of our Making More Health Centers and school visits were just a few highlights.

“I decided to have an additional responsibility beside my core role as financial controller and as a reward I gained a once in a lifetime experience to better understand different cultures. I had the opportunity to put my professional background into service of those who need it. I observed the initial steps of the project and met all relevant stakeholders of the project where I will actively support: starting Silk Farming.“

„We had an excellent two days meeting with the farmers. I had the opportunity to see the Core Health And Wealth (CHW) initiative – one of the MMH centers led by Cleophas Chesoli. CHW is a textbook example of regenerative farming in its field where examples of different methods of agriculture and supplementary farming activities from vermicompost to beekeeping, from aquaponics to black soldier fly harvesting and wool weaving can be seen,” Oguz explained after the week.
The silk farming will be one essential puzzle piece in all activities which we run with the farmer communities besides working with youth and families, kitchen gardening and Animal Health, cultural awareness, water and energy access …
Thanks, Oguz, for your support!
What an inspiring opportunity! Thanks for sharing, Manueal
